The Governing Board
The Governors of Redbrook Hayes Community Primary School are very proud of our Learning Team. Our mission is to ensure that everything possible is undertaken in order to secure limitless possibilities for every learner, to flourish and feel happy and safe whilst in school and to become confident, polite and aspirational young people who are ready to take the next step in their learning adventure.
The Department for Education states that all Governing Boards should have three core strategic functions:
1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
2. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The Governing Board also has to comply with regulations and laws, as set by the Department of Education and Ofsted. We meet every term at Full Governing Board Meetings and in two committees: Learning Resources and Curriculum and Standards. These monitor and secure excellence in areas such as finance, staffing, curriculum, premises, standards of learning, and health and safety. These sub committees also ensure that relevant policies are in place, which are then ratified at Full Governing Board Meetings.
The responsibilities of the Governing Board include setting targets, managing school finances and ensuring learners experience a rich and deep curriculum. This is all achieved within a close working relationship with the Headteacher and Learning Team. We are kept informed of all aspects of school life, and critically challenge this to support further improvement. Governors receive a written report from the Headteacher at every Full Governors meeting; this keeps Governors up to date with children’s progress, academic achievements, staffing and other pertinent information on the school's plans and performance. Governors are closely linked to the school, and meet with strategic leaders on a regular basis to forensically scrutinise key elements of school performance. We systematically challenge them and ensure we have a deep, accurate understanding of the school’s effectiveness, informed by the views of pupils, parents and staff. These meetings are then discussed at Full Governing Board Meetings. We also like to take an active part in school life and, wherever possible, Governors attend special assemblies and events both in and out of school. It is important to us that we also have a close relationship with the local church and community.
Any major decisions about school are discussed in our Full Governing Board meetings. Governors ensure that they are aware of what is taking place in an ever changing world of education and governance. We do this by attending training courses, we are members of the National Governance Association and have links to the Staffordshire Governor Forums. It is also important that we have a working relationship with other schools.
Many of our Governors have had children attend the school or still have children in school now. We therefore can understand the concerns and anxieties of parents and carers only too well. Your first port of call for information should always be Mr Gaffiney and the school, but we are more than happy to hear from you about any issues you may have, both positive and negative. You can contact the Chair of Governors by making an appointment either with the Headteacher or through the school office. However, we feel confident that our incredible Learning Team will create a magical and inspiring learning adventure for your child, and look forward to the inevitable successes to come.
We strive to fulfil our role of securing the highest of standards and an inspiring learning adventure for all, in a climate of limitless possibilities where every learner can experience excellence.
Many thanks, and with very best wishes on behalf of the entire Governing Board,
Jackie Horne
